Money Can Grow On Trees

(HIT)-Everyone knows that planting a tree is good for the environment. But did you know that if you plant the right tree in the right place, your house can use less energy, according to Edison Electric Institute. That can mean money in your pocket from lower energy bills. And, by saving energy, you will be protecting the environment even more.
Trees that have leaves on them (called deciduous trees) should be planted where the sun shines brightly on your house. In the summer, the leaves will block the hot sunshine, keeping your home cooler. The shade can also make it easier for your air conditioner to work, saving more energy. In the winter, after the leaves fall, the tree now allows the warm sunshine to pass through, helping your home’s heating system keep your home warm and toasty.
Pine trees and other evergreen trees keep their needles all year long. This makes them great for blocking the cold winter winds that can put a chill on your house. They’re also good for blocking the hot sun in the summer.
Of course, planting trees is just one way to make your home more energy efficient. They are many things that you can do inside to save energy. Small things can save a lot, like turning off the lights when you leave the room, turning off the video game or computer when you are finished with it, or keeping the refrigerator door closed as much as possible.
